Investigators need your help solving the murder of Martha Carol Battles, a 39 year-old Havana, Florida native and mother of three, who was found floating in the Ochlocknee River at the Iron bridge on Sunday October 8th, 2006 by local fishermen.


The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office has recorded its first homicide for the year 2006. On Sunday October 8th, 2006, fishermen at the Ochlocknee River on Iron Bridge Road in Havana, Florida located a body floating in the water. Sheriff's Officials were alerted to the body by the fishermen who stated that they initially thought that it was debris that had been dumped in the river, but upon a closer look found it to be a body of a black female. The body was identified as 39 year-old Martha Carol Battles originally of Havana, Florida but had a current residence in Tallahassee, Florida. Gadsden County Sheriff's Office Investigators along with Special Agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death with cooperation from Leon County Sheriff's Office, Decatur County Sheriff's Office and Tallahassee Police Department.

Investigators are asking for your help in solving this case and seek information from anyone who may have observed anything suspicious involving a green 4-door 1994 Buick Skylark in the area between the Florida/Georgia Line and Iron Bridge Road in Havana, Florida between the hours of 6 PM Saturday October 7th, 2006 and 6 AM Sunday October 8th, 2006. Also investigators are seeking information regarding anyone who may have seen a subject riding a bicycle during these hours listed and anyone who may be missing a container used to store gasoline in the Havana, Florida area. Investigator Jenkins of the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office and Special Agent DeVaney of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are the lead investigators for their respective agencies. "Any information no matter how small can be useful in helping us solve this case. We have some very good leads and are pursuing them as we speak", Investigator Jenkins states.
