Gov. Crist and Sheriff Young embrace at the capitol during Sheriff's Day.

The courtyard at the Florida Capitol was filled with a sea of green as Sheriff's and deputies from around the state converged on the capitol. Sheriff's and deputies from counties around the state converged on the capitol today as they try to sway legislators for more funding. Displays filled the capitol lobby and courtyard with demonstrations of equipment and program literature from every Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Young took the opportunity to talk with legislators from our district in hopes to push Gadsden County into the forefront. Rep. Curtis Richardson and Rep. Lorraine Ausley talked to the Sheriff at length about needs in Gadsden County. Rep. Ausley stated that she plans to visit Gadsden County in the near future to share her Youth Initiatives with local leaders. During the break, Sheriff Young took the opportunity to get close and personal with Governor Crist as he greeted the Sheriff with a huge embrace.

Sheriff Young and other Sheriffs from around the State left the courtyard for a meeting with the Senate President at 2:00 PM to discuss their critical needs in their respective counties. "It is my intentions to do what I can to further the progress of Gadsden County. I hope that the Senate President will hear and address our needs with additional funding that will improve services in Gadsden County," Sheriff Young states. The Sheriff also attended a meeting with Florida's Attorney General Bill McCollum to discuss issues with sexual predators.

Gadsden County was well represented by 12 members of the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office, one civilian employee and Gadsden County Lobbyist Dick Hollahan.
