Authorities say suspect might have made $1 million from marijuana cultivation if not caught.
Authorities estimate Michael Buckley's adventures in horticulture might have made him $1 million - had a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer not discovered what local law enforcement authorities are calling one of the biggest marijuana cultivation operations in the Big Bend area.
Working with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and FWC, Gadsden County Sheriff's deputies discovered Friday more than 700 marijuana plants growing in the woods at the end of Swisher Road in Havana. They located another 70 plants behind the small wood cabin on Buckley's property.
Deputies found ammunition inside the home and believe there may be weapons concealed within the house's wall, GCSO Inv. Ulysses Jenkins said.
"We've got evidence there are weapons inside the wall," he said.
Law enforcement officers are looking for a second suspect in the case.
Jenkins said federal charges may be pending.
"We did preserve our evidence in a way that federal charges could be pursued," he said.
